Sensitive Data is Encrypted while Full Application Functionality is Retained
VPS understands the Salesforce application protocol and detects the sensitive data elements in the HTTP requests and responses traveling between the server and end users' browsers. VPS encrypts and decrypts these data fields on the fly, as required, without altering the SaaS application or its HTTP request structure. In fact, the Salesforce application remains unaware that this data encryption-decryption is occurring.
It is important to emphasize that Salesforce functionality is not affected, even while some of the data fields within the database are encrypted. Sorting, searching, reporting and field validation functionality remains intact.
If a user opts to export data stored in Salesforce (to a Word document or Excel spreadsheet, for example), VPS will decrypt the encrypted elements in the exported document, resulting in a fully-readable, clear text document on the user's computer.
Because no readable sensitive data is stored in the Salesforce server-side databases, legal regulations pertaining to sensitive data no longer come into play.
